Description
This photograph of a female Hartmann's Mountain Zebra was taken at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas.
A portion of the proceeds from sales of this photograph will be donated to the Center.
Hartmann's Mountain Zebra - Equus zebra hartmannae - come from the mountainous region between the Namib Desert and the Central Plateau in Namibia, where their conservation status is listed as vulnerable. The wild population in Namibia is estimated to be 8,000 adults.
Hartmann's Mountain Zebra are unique in that they and the Cape Mountain Zebra have 32 chromosomes, rather than the 44 chromosomes of other zebra species.
Fossil Rim Wildlife Park's mission focuses on the conservation of wildlife species in peril, conservation education, scientific research, responsible natural resources management, and the training of conservation professionals.
